Her sarcasm and snide ways often give the illusion she is a hard, cruel woman, but she has had her tender hearted moments. Her mannerisms are as mysterious as herself. She prefers to be alone or in the company of her familiars; Her guiding animals and or her Hounds. She is one of the few still virgin Goddesses.
Brief History: Part of the original Titans, who ruled the universe before Zues over-took them, she became a favored Goddess in the God’s eyes and even respected at times more than the rest. She is allowed not only in the Underworld where she dwells as a minion of Hades, but also among the glories of Olympus. But she does not frequent there often unless commanded by Zues to do so.
Despite her loyalties to the God of the Underworld, Hecate has crossed him once, as far as he is aware. When Persephone became the object of Hades’ affection and stole her away, Hecate went to Demeter and offered to rescue her daughter at the knowledge of who took her. In the end it was due to Hecate’s involvement that the Goddess of Spring spends six months with Hades and six months with her Mother. Because of Hecate’s ability to go about her own business as she chooses, her and Hades do not often see eye to eye and clash frequently, especially when it appears that her loyalties lie more with his brother, Zues.
She wanders the night, being a mostly nocturnal Goddess and is always in the company of her Hounds. She is respect and feared by both mortals and immortals alike. Her age is unknown, but because of her previous calling of being a Titan it is suspected her age exceeds even Zues and Hera’s.
Her followers include the Amazons and witches mostly. She is often depicted having three heads by her worshippers and is given the sacrifices of black lambs and dogs. Because of her reputation, these offerings are done with the patron’s head turned from view of the pyre on which the sacrifice is burned. She is a just Goddess and thus is rightly feared and respected.
